People experience spirituality in different ways. For many Christians, it is about growing in faith with the support of a church community.
We often grow spiritually through worship, prayer, and sharing our faith with others. Spirituality is about relationships: with God, with other people, and with ourselves. As Christians, we grow closer to Jesus and deepen our relationship with God through these connections.
Spirituality can also be nurtured through:
- Prayer
- Meditation
- Quiet reflection
- Mindfulness
- Spiritual accompaniment (see below).
We encourage everyone in the Diocese to grow in their faith through prayer, reading the Bible, and serving others.
Our Lights for Christ resources offer practical ideas to support your spiritual growth, including guidance on creating a Personal Rule of Life.
You can also explore our prayer and worship resources or join the Diocese’s prayer community.
If you lead prayers in church, or would like to, you may find this training resource from Derby Diocese helpful.
Spiritual accompaniment
Many people find it helpful to have a Spiritual Accompanier (sometimes called a Spiritual Director). A Spiritual Accompanier walks alongside you on your faith journey. They provide a safe space to talk, listen carefully, and help you reflect on how God may be at work in your life.
The Diocese runs a network of trained Spiritual Accompaniers. To find out more, please get in touch with us.
Courses for spiritual growth
We run two nationally-acclaimed courses:
Details of a 6-month course exploring your relationship with God.
A 6-month course to enable growth in the ministry of discerning listening and spiritual accompaniment.
