A high standard of integrity and service is expected of all those who are employees of the Diocese of Sheffield.  Mostly that standard is met, but occasionally individual clergy can fall short of what is expected.  When this occurs, there are two possible levels of response.  At whatever level you are concerned, please be assured that your allegation of misconduct will be taken seriously.

Minor instances of inappropriate behaviour

If you are concerned about a minor incident or instances of behaviour which you consider inappropriate, you are encouraged to share your disappointment with the employee concerned and seek to resolve it together.

Raising a formal complaint according to the Diocesan Complaint Policy for Employees

If the attempts at communicating with the employee have not proved fruitful, you should log a formal complaint with the Diocesan Executive Assistant who will ensure that it the complaint is handled according to the formal policy and by the best placed to deal with the complaint.

Complaint can be made verbally or via email. Please click the link below to access the Complaint Policy for Employees that will detail how a complaint can be raised.

Diocesan Complaint Policy for Employees

Please note that this document does not deal with complaints made against clergy, nor against volunteers who have been recruited by a parish church. Furthermore, if you are an employee of the Diocese of Sheffield and wish to make a complaint, you will need to consult the ‘Whistleblowing’ policy.

If the employee of the Sheffield Diocesan Board of Finance is ordained it is likely that a dual process will be run that involves the Human Resources Department of the Diocese of Sheffield and the office of the Bishop of Sheffield. In this instance you will be advised about how your allegation can be most effectively handled.
