Introducing Lights for Christ Journals

Our Lights for Christ journal helps children discover how special they are to God, and how they can live out their faith every day – at home, at school, and with friends. Designed for primary school-aged children, this is a resource to help children understand the value they bring to their communities and the ways that they can apply faith to everyday life.

The journal contains a page of ideas for how children can put their faith into practice followed by lots of blank pages for them to write or draw about what they do. Examples might include being kind to someone at school, saying a prayer, looking after the environment or listening to a worship song. There is also space for them to write down what they are thankful for. The journal is a place for children to record how they are being Lights for Christ in their communities.

Designed to be part of a wider journey of discipleship, churches and schools can gift these journals to children and then invite them to share what they’ve been up to after a few weeks. Churches who have already used the journals as part of a pilot project found it valuable to invite children to share from their journals during a Sunday service. This meant that the wider congregation could encourage them in their discipleship and that the adults could learn from the children, too! The journals could also work well as part of baptism or confirmation preparation.

Church groups and schools can buy journals at the subsidised rate of 40p each. They can either be collected from Diocesan Church House (95-99 Effingham Street, Rotherham, S65 1BL) or posted for a flat rate of £5. Please use the form below to order journals (via PayPal) and select either collection or postage. If you have any queries about purchasing journals, please contact Hannah Sandoval (hannah.sandoval@sheffield.anglican.org).
