Bishop Pete to Host Garden Party in Aid of Three Local Charities

The Bishop of Sheffield, The Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox, and his wife, Dr Cathy Wilcox, are hosting a Garden Party this week to raise money for three local charities.

Taking place on Saturday 13 June from 2-5pm at Bishopscroft, the event will support the following charities: The Archer Project (supporting people experiencing homelessness, based at Sheffield Cathedral), ASSIST (an asylum seeker and refugee charity in Sheffield, of which Bishop Pete is a Patron), and Refurnish in Doncaster (providing community benefit in South Yorkshire). All funds raised will be divided equally between the three charities.

Alongside craft stalls, refreshments and a wonderful community atmosphere, this year we’re celebrating the creativity of 12 local schools taking part in our recycling and upcycling competition, with entries judged by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield. Two of our schools will also be performing on the day, joined by the Choir with No Name and the Dinnington Colliery Brass Band, bringing music to the garden throughout the day. There’s plenty for families and children to enjoy, including hook a duck, coconut shy, splat a rat, face painting and more. Entry is free and there is no need to book in advance.

An amazing collection of prizes is available to win and bid on in the Garden Party’s raffle and silent auction. Raffle tickets are already on sale online – please take a look at the stellar list of prizes on offer. Our silent auction is open for early bidding, with some fantastic prizes and family days out to be won, including a midweek glamping stay in York, a Yorkshire Wildlife Park family pass and vouchers for a group game of paintballing.

“It is always a great joy to host people here in the house and garden at Bishopscroft, offering hospitality to others as Jesus encourages in his followers. Cathy and I are greatly looking forward to welcoming you to the Garden Party. The Archer Project, ASSIST and Refurnish are causes that are deeply close to our hearts. The important work they carry out, and the differences they make to people’s lives, is immeasurable. We hope that alongside an atmosphere of fun and friendship, we can raise some awareness and contribute towards these vital organisations”.
