St Mary’s Tickhill: celebrating 40 years of service to music

St Mary’s Tickhill are celebrating a milestone in the life of organist and choirmaster, John Marsden BEM.

John has held the post of organist and choirmaster at St Mary’s for the past 40 years, a fact that was celebrated in October by the Royal School of Church Music, who presented John with the Nicholson Award for services to church music at a ceremony in Chester Cathedral. Also photographed are St Mary’s in-house commemorations of John’s commitment and dedication to the church and the community. During a recent morning service, John was re-presented with his RSCM award by Priest-in-Charge, Rev Canon Paul Richardson, before everyone tucked into a delicious slice of cake specially made and appropriately decorated for the occasion.

Prior to being the organist and choir master, John served for 13 years at St James, Doncaster, which means he has been making music to the glory of God in South Yorkshire churches for over half a century!
