More than 100 people came to St Luke’s Church, Lodge Moor, on 15 October 2026 for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, a film about the climate and nature crisis, followed by a discussion.
Presented by Chris Packham, the film draws on evidence from independent scientists. It looks at what extreme weather and threats to food, health and security could mean for the UK, and sets out actions that could limit the damage.
People spoke of fear, shock and frustration that the evidence is not more widely known. Watching together gave neighbours the chance to share those reactions and think about a shared response.
St Luke’s is an ecumenical partnership, meaning Anglican, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed traditions worship together there. Hosting the evening was a practical way to care for creation and love its neighbours.
Christian hope does not mean playing down frightening realities. It can give people the courage to face the truth, care for one another and act, even when the challenge feels overwhelming.
Most of those present signed an open letter to Olivia Blake MP, backing her call for a national, prime-time televised emergency briefing.
You can find more about hosting a screening at your church, on the National Emergency Briefing website.
