Three churches in the Diocese of Sheffield are benefitting from new repair funding, thanks to Historic England’s Places of Worship Renewal Fund Projects in 2026.
St Bartholomew in Maltby, All Saints Woodlands in Doncaster and St Catherine of Siena in Sheffield are receiving a share of a £92 million fund over a four-year period. The Places of Worship Renewal Fund (PWRF) is designed to support the repair of England’s treasured places of worship and is targeted at places of most need.
In 2026/27, the first round of funding will support 51 projects across England, helping listed places of worship address urgent repairs and essential improvements, keeping them safe, open and in use while supporting their role as active community spaces.

St Bartholomew’s in Maltby is receiving £266,942 for a structural repairs project which will include repairs and weatherproofing to the church spire and tower, the removal of inappropriate cement, stonework repairs, gutter repairs and conservation of the West Tower window. Internal stonework and the timber bell frame will also be repaired.

All Saints Woodlands in Doncaster is receiving £453,123 to help with repairs to the north roof and internal flooring, addressing urgent fabric issues and helping safeguard the continued use of the church as a place of worship and community asset.

St Catherine of Siena in Sheffield is receiving £973,632 for Phase 2 of the ‘Save St Catherine of Siena’ project, which will complete repairs to the chancel and nave roofs and clerestory windows, helping secure the future of the church and address significant fabric deterioration.
Revd Beth Langner, Priest-in-Charge at St Bartholomew, said:
‘I, along with the churchwardens and the wider church community, are delighted to hear we have secured this very generous grant from Historic England’s Places of Worship Renewal Fund. It will mean that we are able to preserve this beautiful building for generations to come.’
The team at All Saints Woodlands said:
‘We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of over £450k from the Places of Worship Renewal Fund to repair the remaining half of the roof at All Saints Church. After a very short timescale on the tender process and with many thanks to our architects Mark and Lucy Pearce and to Martin Brooks Roofers for their support in preparing the bid we have been awarded the grant.
‘This completes the work started in 2017 to replace the failing roof and ensure All Saints is active at the heart of this community for another hundred years. Now to our vision which says Door that are Open, Hearts that Love, Faith that Shines, we can add….Rooves that will be mended.
‘Huge thanks to the team at Heritage England for their hard work and for choosing us!’
