Jesus said, “The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:22-23)
On Tuesday 11 November, Sheffield Cathedral will joyfully welcome three new Ecumenical Canons in a special Choral Evensong celebrating Christian unity across traditions.
The service, beginning at 5.30pm, will feature rich musical contributions from across the Christian family, including ancient Coptic Orthodox chant, Gospel praise in the Pentecostal style, and music from the united choirs of St Marie’s Cathedral and Sheffield Cathedral.
Fr Christopher Posluszny, Cathedral Dean at St Marie’s Catholic Cathedral. Fr Christopher, the son of Polish immigrants and a long-serving priest in South Yorkshire, has dedicated his ministry to ecumenical partnership and healthcare chaplaincy. He says:
“Working together while respecting our differences is a vital part of effective evangelisation in a society where so many have yet to hear the Gospel and come to know Christ.”
Pastor David Bussue, Associate Pastor, Church of God of Prophecy, Sheffield. Pastor David is also Chief Executive of the Sheffield African Caribbean Mental Health Association (SACMHA) and a national trustee of his denomination. He shares:
“True leadership is servant leadership.”
Fr Mousa Roshdy, Coptic Orthodox Church. Born in Egypt and ordained in 2002, Fr Mousa has served in Africa, North America, and now across South Yorkshire and the North of England, where he is establishing new Coptic congregations.
This installation reflects the Cathedral’s ongoing commitment to ecumenical partnership – a living expression of Jesus’ prayer “that they may all be one.”
All are warmly invited to join this significant moment of worship, thanksgiving, and shared faith.
Loving God, you call your Church to be a living sign of your Kingdom, proclaiming the good news of your love: unite us with those of every tradition, to work together for justice, peace, and reconciliation; through Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
