Tower Weekend at Thorne: ‘it’s about time’

St Nicholas Thorne has hosted a ‘Tower Weekend’ (20th-22nd June) as part of efforts to raise money for restorations to the tower clock. The campaign, ‘it’s about time’, needs to raise £10,000.

Each year, Thorne hosts these weekends to include a summer fayre in the hall and church on the Saturday, and an outdoor Sunday service led by Revd Tim Mitchell from the top of the tower, followed by fellowship and a BBQ.

The fayre on the Saturday was a success, with an array of stalls raising over £800. The Sunday service was held in the sunshine and featured the recently launched Community Choir, who sang ‘Up on the roof’ as Tim was about the climb to the tower! This was followed by ‘You raise me up’ after the sermon (on Jacob’s ladder).

Jo Mitchell, part of the St Nicholas Church congregation, said:

“There was a joyful atmosphere amongst the 70 folk who gathered outside. We shared a short video on our Facebook page which has had 1.7K views in less than 24 hours! We do feel the spirit is moving in this place!”
