Revd Beccy Allen has been appointed as the new Interim Minister for the Diocese of Sheffield, following an extensive recruitment process and subject to employment checks. Beccy, who is currently serving as Vicar of St Columba’s in Sutton Coldfield and as Mission Planning Lead within the Mission Support Team will start her role here in July.
Part of Beccy’s role will be to help lay the groundwork for locations across the Diocese in vacancy who have particular challenges which need addressing before appointments can be made. She will also provide short-term oversight and leadership during a vacancy in parishes where significant missional and/or transformational momentum exists, to ensure this is not lost during a period of vacancy.
Beccy will lead and work with a small Interim Team made up of a part-time equivalent administrator and a part-time equivalent youth and children’s worker (employed through the Centenary Project). The Interim Minister role is a post which is funded by a grant from the National Church currently up to the end of 2028, with the potential to extend up until 2031 depending on further funding.
Beccy said:
‘I am delighted to be called by God and invited by Bishop Pete into this new role at such an exciting time in the diocese of Sheffield. I look forward to bringing all I have learnt from both my parish and diocesan experience in Birmingham; to work alongside parishes as together we seek to play our part in transforming our society and God’s world.‘
The Venerable David Gerrard, Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham, said:
‘I am thrilled that Beccy has agreed to take on the role of Interim Minister for the Diocese. She brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the role which I know will be a huge benefit to the Diocese and the Parishes she will work with. I very much look forward to working alongside her.’
