New Associate Archdeacon announced for Diocese of Sheffield

Revd Mike Gilbert

The Acting Bishop of Sheffield is pleased to announce that, after a thorough appointment process, the Revd Mike Gilbert has been offered and accepted the post of Associate Archdeacon Transition Enabler in the Deaneries of Hallam and Ecclesfield. Mike is currently Rector of the Parish of Baslow and Eyam, in the Diocese of Derby and Area Dean of Peak Deanery. Mike is no stranger to the Diocese of Sheffield having served a curacy at Chapeltown and then serving as Vicar of Brightside with Wincobank before going on to be a Church Army lecturer at the Wilson Carlile College of Evangelism in Sheffield.

Mike says:

‘I am delighted to be returning home to Sheffield and am honoured to be appointed Associate Archdeacon. I am looking forward to serving the churches and clergy of Sheffield as we seek the kingdom of God together.’

Sophie, Acting Bishop of Sheffield and Bishop of Doncaster says:

‘We are looking forward to welcoming Mike back to the Diocese of Sheffield and to this role. I know that his Associate Archdeacon colleagues are looking forward to working with him as together with clergy and lay colleagues we continue to seek the transformation of the Diocese of Sheffield. Of course, the appointment of Mike, welcome as it is, has been necessary because of the retirement of Ian Parkinson due to ill health. We continue to pray for Ian and Nadine for his ongoing and full recovery.’

Further information regarding a licensing date will be confirmed once all the formalities have been completed.
