Applications for the Net Zero Quick Wins Grant have reopened for 2026.

The grant is offered to support Churches with smaller-scale decarbonisation projects and is funded by a pot of money that has been awarded to the Diocese by the Church of England Net Zero Programme. The grant scheme forms part of the Diocesan Action Plan to work towards Net Zero Carbon by 2030.

In 2024-2025 £58,000 was distributed from the Quick Wins Funding in the Diocese of Sheffield. 21 Churches successfully applied for grants from this fund. Supported projects have included LED Lighting, Insulation, smart heating controls and heated seated cushions. In addition, 50 churches who completed the Energy Footprint Tool in 2024 claimed a £100 grant towards LED lighting.

The Diocese also used some of the funding to invest in temporary heating equipment, which has been in use in a number of churches to allow them time to consider replacement of broken systems with a more sustainable alternative.

Applications are now open again for churches to apply for funding. Further information about the Net Zero Quick Wins grant, including a full list of eligible works and other criteria is available here: https://www.sheffield.anglican.org/support/for-churches/social-transformation/net-zero-quick-wins-grant/ .

The deadline for the first round of funding is 5pm on Wednesday 1 April 2026. The will be a second round of funding this summer which will close on Monday 22 June. David Castle, Net Zero Programme Manager:

“I’m very pleased that the Quick Wins Grants are continuing for the next 3 years. Many of our churches have benefitted in the last 2 years, and many more will be able to in the future. And as before, we can help parishes to identify those small things that will make the biggest improvements to both comfort and energy efficiency, reducing running costs and the impact on the environment at the same time. So now is the time to start planning your improvements!”

St John’s Kimberworth Park received a grant towards roof insulation, which they expect to bring savings on their energy bills as well as providing a more sustainable building.
