Churches around the world are being invited to take part in a global week of prayer, coordinated by the 24/7 Prayer network. Here in the Diocese of Sheffield, we are exploring two particular ways to get involved. We are currently in conversation with our link dioceses to organise a joint online prayer gathering as a follow-up to Thy Kingdom Come. This is provisionally planned for Wednesday 3 September, and further details will be shared in a future edition of the eBulletin. In addition, a virtual prayer room has been set up for the full seven days. Could you sign up to pray for just one hour? We are encouraging our link dioceses to take part as well, with different time zones making it easier to keep the prayer going throughout the week. Let us join together in prayer for our communities, our partners, and the world.

Some other ideas for an hour of prayer in this season: The 24/7-Prayer guidelines speak of declaring God’s glory in the nations so there is definitely space to worship God during your hour. They also talk about ‘reaching a nation’ with good news & transformation. For us this could translate into praying for:
- Sheffield Diocese. For our churches to reach out with the good news of Jesus & also welcome those who are searching for hope & meaning
- Our link dioceses doing this in other parts of the world
- For our broader mission, seeking Kingdom transformation in our societies and in the care of God’s creation
- Coming closer to home, pray for your own church, mission area, and deanery. You know them, what is happening, the challenges & the opportunities.
- Don’t forget in all this to make space for silence to listen to God
