Asbestos Awareness for Churches

25 September 2026 @ 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

All buildings constructed prior to the year 2000 could contain Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s). Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials for many decades. Asbestos is a Group 1 Carcinogen to human health and
around 5000 people die every year from asbestos-related diseases. It is essential that people who manage and work on buildings containing ACM’s can recognise typical materials prior to disturbing them and know what information they need prior to working in a building.

This course is ran by RDS Safety Management and facilitated by the Diocese of Sheffield. It will be ran online and is free to attend. Please complete the form below to attend. A video link will be sent to the email address provided.

The training covers the following modules:

  • What is asbestos?
  • Properties of asbestos.
  • Examples of typical materials containing asbestos.
  • The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
  • Asbestos surveys, registers and management plans.
  • The duty to manage.
  • Asbestos removal works.
