Eleanor Swift is the new Parish Nurse at the Attercliffe and Darnall Centre of Mission, where she will be working with an exciting team in a diverse area.
Parish Nurses help with health advice, health promotion and signposting, alongside giving spiritual care.
We caught up with Eleanor to find out more:
Tell us a bit about yourself
I grew up in Leicestershire and moved to Sheffield to start my nurse training at The University of Sheffield. I met my husband not long after completing my training and South Yorkshire has been my home ever since. I am Mum of two; we also have a dog, Coco.
How long have you been involved in nursing?
I qualified in 2008, initially working at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on the Infectious and Tropical diseases unit for seven years. I then moved to Practice Nursing which I have done for 10 years, working in GP practices across Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.
What drew you to this role?
The opportunity to address people’s spiritual health as well as their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Tell us about some of the things you’ll be doing in your job
I hope to be able to spend time with people who are lonely, isolated, grieving, anxious, or just need someone to talk to; signposting them to services that can support them on their journey.
I will be attending local groups such as coffee mornings and mother and toddler groups in the parish to introduce myself and identify specific areas of need.
What is the local community like in Attercliffe and Darnall?
The area is culturally diverse; there are already numerous thriving community groups that serve the local population.
How can others get involved in supporting the work of parish nursing?
Please pray as we develop the service, that we would meet needs and build meaningful relationships.
