We are delighted to announce the Rt Revd Tim Ellis as Chair of the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee) in the Diocese of Sheffield. Bishop Tim brings a wealth of experience with him, including having served on the DAC in Sheffield for a number of years.
Bishop Tim was the Bishop of Grantham for 8 years in the Diocese of Lincoln before retiring in 2013. He was ordained in the Diocese of Manchester in 1977 and served his curacy at St John’s Church, Old Trafford.
He was then successively Vicar at Pendleton; Vicar of St Leonard, Norwood, Sheffield; Rural Dean of Ecclesfield, also Canon of Sheffield Cathedral, and finally (before his ordination to the episcopate) Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey in the Diocese of Lincoln. Bishop Tim is originally from Sheffield and is a keen fan of Sheffield Wednesday.
Bishop Tim said:
“It is an honour to be appointed the new Chairperson of the Sheffield Diocesan Advisory Committee.
“The Diocese has an extensive stock of church buildings ranging from historic to contemporary and functional. They play an important part in the life and witness of the Church today and we find them at a time of great challenges for their care, upkeep and development. The DAC is here to help address the issues and support the parishes in making the most of our built heritage.”
The Bishop of Sheffield, the Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox, said:
“I am delighted that Bishop Tim has accepted my invitation to become the Chair of the DAC. He is superbly well qualified for the role with decades of substantial experience, but also a wholehearted commitment to the proclamation of the good news of God in Jesus Christ. He’ll do an excellent job.”
