Bishop Pete and Cathy are delighted to be hosting the Garden Party at Bishopscroft this year on 22 June, raising funds for two local charities: The Archer Project and ASSIST. Please secure the date in your diaries. There will be a variety of stalls for people to sell their products and demonstrate their skills, entertainment for children and families, music and refreshments. Do feel free to circulate the date more widely within your networks. Everyone is welcome!
If there are people within your parishes who would like to get involved, either as a volunteer on the day, or to have a stall to sell or demonstrate their crafts, please ask them to contact the Bishop’s Office on 0114 230 2170 or Email: pa@bishopofsheffield.org.uk. We would love to hear from them.

The Archer Project has a proven history of transforming the lives of vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Sheffield and the wider region. What began 30 years ago as a breakfast served by the congregation at Sheffield Cathedral has grown into a multifaceted range of services to support individuals who need it the most. We are integral to the community of ostracised people needing help and understanding to rebuild their lives. Escaping homelessness is not just about getting off the street. To break the cycle of homelessness, individuals must receive support at every stage back into paid employment. In 2023, The Archer Project supported 1103 individuals on their journey out of homelessness.
ASSIST works alongside people in Sheffield who have been refused asylum in the UK. People in this situation do not have the right to work, housing, benefits or other vital forms of support, and typically find themselves pushed into destitution and homelessness. All of ASSIST’s clients show deeply impressive fortitude and resilience despite the systemic barriers they face. ASSIST works with them to remove these barriers, seeking to create conditions in which they can take back some freedom and personal autonomy. ASSIST provides accommodation, welfare payments, bus passes and a bespoke casework service, through which clients are referred to vital legal advice and signposted to opportunities to build community links and improve their wellbeing. The work of ASSIST is possible thanks to the generosity of its volunteers and supporters.
