NEW! 2018 Real Advent Calendar
17th October 2018
2018 Advent calendar with a real mission
The 2018 Real Advent Calendar has been officially launched with a new 24 page Christmas story-activity book, a children’s competition, and profits helping to transform the lives of children in Kenya.
The calendar comes with a 24 page Christmas story-activity book with a page for every day of Advent and some fun Advent challenges. Behind each of the 25 windows is part of the Christmas story and a festive shaped Fairtrade milk chocolate. The calendar can be ordered from www.meaningfulchocolate.co.uk
Why we need a Real Advent Calendar
The Real Advent Calendar was created in 2013 following surveys which showed that 36% of 5-7 year olds did not know whose birthday is celebrated at Christmas. In the same year 51% of adults said that the birth of Jesus was irrelevant to their Christmas.
David Marshall, from the Meaningful Chocolate Company, said; “We looked at the usual collection of Advent Calendars on the shelves and could see there was a place for a calendar which did something a bit different. What we designed was a great opportunity for parents, grandparents and Godparents to share the Christmas story while supporting Fairtrade.“
Tastes good and does good
Money raised from this year's Real Advent Calendar will help The Funzi and Bodo Trust provide more than 600,000 eggs a year to feed children in Kenya, buy books for schools and supply medicines.
To celebrate the launch of the 2018 Real Advent Calendar a special competition is being held. The challenge is for young people to design the front of an Advent Calendar with the theme of ‘Follow the Star’.
The competition is open to primary schools, secondary schools, and Sunday schools/Messy Church/youth groups such as Guides or Boys’ Brigade. There are three first prizes of £150 in each category and three runners-up prizes of £50. Cheques for £150 and £50 will be made to the nominated group and all winners and runners-up will receive a box of our Fairtrade Christmas crackers and tree decorations.
