Diocese pair to take key roles in national church

29th January 2016

Canon Elizabeth Paver, one of Sheffield Diocese's lay representatives on General Synod, has been voted as the new Vice-Chair of the House of Laity.  One of the diocese's other representatives, Canon Mark Russell, has been elected by the House of Laity to the the Archbishop's Council.  As Vice-Chair of the House of Laity, Elizabeth also takes a place on the Council, along with Bishop Steven, this now gives the diocese three seats on the Council!

The Archbishops' Council provides within the Church of England a focus for leadership and executive responsibility and a forum for strategic thinking and planning.

Within an overall vision for the Church set by the House of Bishops, the Council proposes an ordering of priorities in consultation with the House of Bishops and the General Synod and takes an overview of the Church's financial needs and resources.
