A statement from the Bishop of Sheffield
27th August 2014
"I have been deeply moved and appalled to read the findings of the Independent Enquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham published yesterday.
My thoughts and prayers are with all those involved, particularly the victims and their families who still suffer acutely from the effects of exploitation.
The first duty of any society is to protect the weak and vulnerable, and especially children from harm.
The Church in Rotherham stands ready to support the wider community in the town as people absorb the uncomfortable and difficult truths in the report, as Rotherham grieves for what has happened to so many and as the town continues to build a better future for its young people.
In particular, I would call on Rotherham Council to make full provision for the ongoing care of those who have been affected in this tragic series of events."
