We will meet in the beautiful parish church of St Margaret’s Swinton and, using art and the theme of light, we will slow down and enjoy some peace and calm. The feast of St Lucy (celebrated on 13 December) will also be a theme for our day, so expect candles and saffron buns!
Using images and bible readings relating to the theme of light and St Lucy as a starting point, we will reflect and respond through art and craft related activities and/or silent contemplation to find stillness; helping us prepare for the Christmas season when we celebrate the coming of Jesus at Christmas, who is the Light of the World. [We will offer spaces to be with others and also for individual quietness].
The day will begin at 9.30am for refreshments, for a 10am start. There will be a short period of welcome, prayer and pointers for reflection, followed by a generous period of time for individual reflection and response. A range of art materials will be available for creative response and a small journal provided to record thoughts and/or use for art.
After a short lunchtime prayer, pie and peas will be served for lunch, followed by further pointers in the afternoon for reflection and creative response and/or quiet contemplation. Refreshments will be served at 3.30pm and the day will close at 4pm.
No experience of quiet days is required, and all are welcome. Please feel free to bring a reflective book you have been meaning to read but not found the time for (perhaps an Advent reflection book), headphones and music or a reflective podcast you would like to listen to or if photography is your gift, do bring a camera, the church is very beautiful.
Places are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. The cost is £16 and includes all art/craft materials, a journal to take home, hot lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
[Swinton is approx. 15 miles from Sheffield, 10 miles from Doncaster, 5 miles from Rotherham and 10 miles from Barnsley; Swinton has a train station and the church is approx. 15 minutes walk. Free car parking is available]
Bookings will close on Monday 02 December at 9am (or sooner if all places are taken).
