World Book Day - 1 March
26th February 2018
World Book Day (WBD) is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
This is the 21st year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 1 March 2018, children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading.
The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Hence the giving of £1 WBD tokens through participating schools and their receiving age-ranged World Book Day Resource Packs full of ideas and activities, display material and more information about how to get involved in World Book Day.
World Book Day has a Christian element in certain countries. Just as participating general bookshops accept the £1 WBD tokens, so too do CLC Bookshops and many more Christian bookshops nationwide. It's worth noting that there are more Christian titles for children available than secular ones (12 versus 10). But that's not all! This year the £1 Christian WBD selection has been extended to adults.
Thanks to the support of Christian publishers, distributors and booksellers, the 12 children's titles and the 8 titles for adults are available in any quantity, while stocks last, for just £1 each from clcbookshops.com or from CLC Bookshops Sheffield. Flyers and posters are available from the bookshop, free of charge.
World Book Day is an ideal and affordable opportunity to get great reads into people’s hands. Visit online or to CLC Bookshops, 103 West Street, SHEFFIELD S1 4EQ, where you will find a very good range of resources for all ages and occasions.
