Sheffield Chamber Choir to perform in Rotherham

11th December 2015

Music lovers looking for an exquisite dose of festive music should make their way to Rotherham next week for a special concert by one of South Yorkshire’s most prestigious music ensembles.

At 7pm on Saturday, 19 December, the Sheffield Chamber Choir will perform a special Christmas celebration in the atmospheric surroundings of Rotherham’s beautiful Minster Church of All Saints.

This will be the first time that the choir has performed at the Minster and follows performances at other Minsters in York, Southwell and Doncaster as well as at Worcester, Lincoln, Peterborough, Lichfield and Ripon Cathedrals.

Under the direction of Robert Webb the famous choir, which specialises in liturgical music, will perform a two-part concert. Accompanied by  renowned organist John Longstaff, the first half will feature Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah while the second will comprise Britten’s ‘A Hymn to the Virgin’, Poulenc’s ‘4 Christmas Motets’,  ‘Hymne a la Vierge’ by Villette and ‘Bethlehem Down’ by Warlock.

Tickets, costing £8.50 for adults and £5 for concessions, are available from the Rotherham Visitor Centre and the choir at sheffieldchamberchoir@gmail.com or on the door on the night. Festive refreshments, served during the interval, are included in the price.
