12th July 2016
A fantastic Olympic Picnic event took place at Herringthorpe Stadium, Rotherham for young people and families on Sunday 10 July. The event was organised by the Centenary Project, an initiative set up and funded by the Diocese of Sheffield.
The Centenary Project (CP) seeks to equip the local church to effectively engage, grow and disciple a new generation of young people, children and families.
There was over 60 people attending the picnic aged from 4 weeks old upwards. Many families expressed how much they were enjoying the day including joining in with the various activities on offer and the short time of worship.
Steve the juggler was wonderful with all ages attending, keeping everyone gripped with his talk whilst juggling etc.
Many of the families at the event were not regular church attenders. One mum said "there are not many events that take place where all the family can join in together, this has been really good, we have thoroughly enjoyed it". One dad asked at the end of the day "so what event is happening next". It was great to see that some families are hungry for future family events to take place, and there are plans for more in the future.
