New Warden of Lay Parish Evangelists announced
23rd October 2015
The Diocese of Sheffield is delighted to announced the appointment of the Revd John Hibberd as the new Warden of Lay Parish Evangelists. John, who is also the Mission Development Advisor for Sheffield and Rotherham, takes over the role from the Revd Canon Ian Smith.
On making the announcement, Dr Christine Gore, Director of Formation for Ministry said:
“I am enormously grateful to Ian for all that he has done during the time he has been in this post. Ian is a hard act to follow but I am delighted to announce that Revd John Hibberd has agreed to take on this role. John is a member of the diocesan Parish Support Team and amongst many other things, teaches on the Mission Shaped Ministry Course and was the brains behind the Crossroads mission last month. Some of you I am sure already know him and I trust will agree we are blessed to have someone of his experience in this role.”
John said ‘I have been involved in training and deploying lay evangelists across the UK for over 20 years. It has been wonderful to see people with a wide range of evangelistic gifts released to be a blessing to churches and to the communities served by those churches. My impression is that sometimes their ministries have been neglected or under-valued. I believe that their passion to take the good news of Jesus to others is something that needs to become more central to us as a diocese with a clear missional focus. I look forward to working with our current Lay Parish Evangelists and to helping others to explore a calling to this valuable ministry.’
Revd Hibberd takes up the appointment from 22 October 2015.
