New Norms, New Beginning
22nd July 2015
In July 2014 the General Synod of the Church of England passed legislation to enable women to be consecrated as bishops. At the same Synod, the House of Bishops made a declaration about future ministry provision for those unable to accept the ministry of women as bishops and priests based around five guiding principles.
In October 2014, Bishop Steven Croft established a small working group chaired by Bishop David Hawtin to consult widely and make recommendations about how the new provision might operate within the Diocese of Sheffield for the mutual flourishing of all.
A copy of their report: New Norms, New Beginning is available to download below. It has been presented and discussed by the Bishop’s Council and by the Diocesan Synod. Bishop Steven hopes discussion of the report will be included on PCC agendas in the coming months and also form part of the agenda of Deanery Synods and chapter meetings.
