Cusworth Hall hosting Diocese of Sheffield centenary event this weekend

Cusworth Hall is this weekend hosting the Diocese of Sheffield at it continues to celebrate its centenary year.  The will mark the fourth stage of the official 2014 centenary tour around the region.

When: Sunday, 20 July 2014, 2-5 PM

What: Any event for anyone with free entrance for family events, activities and refreshments

Where: Cusworth Hall, Cusworth Lane, Doncaster, DN5 7TU

Who: Bishop of Sheffield, Bishop of Doncaster, Centenary Singers, Micah’s Gang puppet theatre

What’s on:

  • Tours around the hall and museum.
  • Workshops on circus skills and African drumming.
  • Micah’s Gang puppet theatre.
  • Teaching from the Bishop of Sheffield.
  • Worship with the Centenary Singers.
  • Face painting and storytelling.
  • A bouncy castle will be available weather permitting.

There will also be the chance to meet the centenary artist in residence.  He has been attending each event where he asks visitors to help create a large painting for the day.  When the tour has completed, these painting will be joined together to make a large piece of artwork that will be displayed in key locations throughout the Diocese.

As at other events, centenary souvenirs will be on sale: the Doncaster Brewery ‘Centenary Ale’ is selling very well; as is the special label Henderson’s Relish.

Refreshments will be available in the Cusworth Tea Room, there will also be an ice cream van onsite.

Cusworth Hall is an 18th century stately home set in the stunning landscaped parklands of Cusworth Park.  It is set next to a lake and surrounded by rolling hills.  Dogs are welcome and there is plenty of room for picnics.

The Bishop of Doncaster, Peter Burrows said:

“The centenary year of the Diocese is a real cause for celebration; and it’s got off to a great start.  The first three official events have seen over 1,000 people attend celebrations in Sheffield Cathedral, Goole and Beauchief.  There has been a great summer festival atmosphere and we can’t wait to take the event to Cusworth Hall this weekend.”
