Children & Youth Network Gathering
24th November 2015
Over 50 children’s and youth workers met together on Wednesday 18 November for an uplifting evening of ideas sharing, connecting with others, prayer and worship. This was the first Network Gathering event which is part of the new pattern of supporting, encouraging, resourcing and inspiring those who work with children and young people across the diocese.
“There was a lovely feeling of family and unity in the room, and it was great to see so many people sharing ideas, questions, advice and email addresses!” said Mike North, the diocesan Children and Young People’s Advisor who hosted the evening at Todwick Parish Hall.
Free desserts, nibbles and drinks were provided throughout the evening to show appreciation for all that these faithful leaders do in their work with those under 18 in our churches. There were resources available to buy, and a number of invited guests to share about their various areas of expertise.
Helen Cockayne, the Centenary Project Leader was also present to share some of the vision behind the new network of employed workers across the diocese, which will link in with these three annual events.
The evening was the first of three events for children and youth workers planned for each year. It was announced that there will be a day-long conference on 12 March, 2016 at St Mary’s, Bramall Lane with a keynote speaker and workshops covering a wide variety of issues facing children, youth and school workers. The conference, called 'Joined Up' will be run by Mike and a team of others from the YMCA, Methodist church and Christians and Sheffield Schools (CaSS). The third event will be another evening of sharing, networking and prayer in June.
