RSCM ‘Sponsored Walk and Sing’ braves all weathers

Lunch in the rain!

On Saturday 12th April, over 20 walkers gathered to sing in St Augustine’s Church, Brocco Bank under the direction of St Augustine’s organist, Peter Verity, before setting off on a 7 mile sponsored walk.

The intrepid walkers braved torrential downpours, snow, and hail as well as plenty of sunny intervals as they followed part of the Sheffield Round Walk through the beautiful parks and woodland of South West Sheffield.

The day ended with a sumptuous tea and a final sing at St John’s Church, Abbeydale under the direction of Helen Bent, the Bishop’s Adviser in Music and Worship.

Over £1000 was raised for the benefit and development of music and worship in local parishes.

Children’s Charity Choir Concert is a great success

On Saturday 23rd February, over a 100 children joined forces in St John’s Church, Ranmoor to present a charity concert in aid of Home-Start. The concert was organised and conducted by Robert Webb, Director of Music at St John’s.

Choirs participating included Greystones Primary School, St Wildfrids Catholic Primary School, Nether Green Infants School, Westbourne Primary School and local RSCM Young Voices.

The charity Home-Start offers a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers who are usually parents themselves, to visit families in their own homes and offer informal, friendly and confidential support.

It provides training for singers and church musicians young and older. The boys of St John’s Parish Choir were joined by children from St Mary’s Church, Worsbrough to make up the RSCM Young Voices for this concert.

If you missed this concert, there is a second Home-Start Family Concert featuring different local children’s choirs on Saturday 15th March at 4pm in St John’s Church, Ranmoor.
