Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is changing
All UK employers will be required to notify HMRC of the details of payments to employees at the time or before they pay them. HMRC are calling this Real Time Information (RTI). Although the change was introduced from 6 April 2013, churches with fewer than 50 employees have until 5 October to start sending their information in real time using payroll software. A guide to what churches need to do is available at: http://www.parishresources.org.uk/people/paye/
Parish Buying Energy Basket
Last Updated on Monday, 11 March 2013 08:57
Plug yourselves in to the energy basket now!
For the first time in 2013, parishes can pool their energy spend and buy electricity and gas in bulk. Supermarkets, hospitals and national and local government purchase in this way to take advantage of their economies of scale. Now parishes, cathedrals, diocesan offices and church schools can access prices based on our combined electricity and gas spends resulting in significant savings across the Church of England - releasing financial resource for mission and ministry!
Over the last year hundreds of parishes have made some remarkable savings by using the Parish Buying consultants. Other parishes have used brokers or are still with their original energy supplier. However you have been buying your energy, buying in bulk through the basket will offer cheaper pricing than the best possible price a parish could obtain for their own energy consumption. We expect prices to be at least 10% lower than the best price a broker could offer.
Other benefits include peace of mind - the energy basket is operated by the Church’s National Procurement Officers using professional consultants to ensure high levels of service and competitive prices; and a long term solution - you should not need to worry again about if you are getting the best deal.
If your electricity or gas contract is due for renewal between now and 30th September 2015 it is important you act soon to ensure you don’t miss this opportunity to save on your energy costs. There is a limited opportunity to join the basket and sign up is required by 15 June 2013. Even if you are already using the Parish Buying service for your gas or electricity you will still need to sign up to join the energy basket and take advantage of this second phase of savings.

What happens when your Vicar leaves? A summary of what happens when a parish moves into an interregnum is provided in the publication “Going, Going, Gone”, which has been updated and can be downloaded here. Hopefully it will be helpful to churchwardens, PCC Secretaries and all those involved in managing a time of change in the parish.
