The parish of Harthill with Woodall sits in the southernmost tip of South Yorkshire, close to the border with North Nottinghamshire.
The Church of All Hallows, situated in the rural village of Harthill, dates from the 11th Century but, 1000 years later, it continues to thrive at the heart of the community it serves. The church plays an important part in the life of the village and has developed active links with a number of organisations, including the local primary school and Methodist Chapel. Additionally All Hallows is part of an active and vibrant ‘cluster’ group, incorporating Thorpe Salvin and Wales churches, and the three congregations regularly enjoy shared worship and other events.
All Hallows Church is open daily for prayer or quiet contemplation and a ‘Daily Prayer Directory’, covering every different village organisation and street, has recently been developed to assist both visitors to the church and people praying in their own homes. There is also a full and varied programme of Weekday and Sunday Services as well as regular Bible Study Evenings and a number of Young People’s Groups, which cater for every age from 0 to 16. As a church All Hallows is committed to the maintenance of local worship, the nurture of individual gifts and ministry and the proclamation of God’s love wherever and whenever the opportunity is presented.
The time leading up to, and through, Advent to Christmas is always busy and this year a Christmas Tree Festival has been added to the other established favourite services and events. These include the Christmas Fayre, the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ ‘Shoebox Service’ (which is held in the local primary school to engage with a greater number of children and families), a Family Carol Service and a Christingle Service on Christmas Eve. Another popular event for Advent is the ‘Posada’ which sees Mary and Joseph figures (not forgetting the donkey!) travel round the village spending each night in the home of a different family before arriving in church on Christmas Eve.
The 3 Church Cluster Vision
We are three parishes but one in Christ,
celebrating the diversity of our individuality,
drawing strength from working and worshipping
in the unity of God
who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit
whilst proclaiming his love to the world.
