Fund Launches to help South Yorkshire Abuse Victims

South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF) has launched the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Fund in response to the recent reports of abuse in Rotherham. The CSE Fund will help meet the existing demand for extra resources to support those affected. The fund will be available to community groups and charities working in supporting vulnerable young people not only in Rotherham but South Yorkshire wide.

New Assistant Bishop appointed for the Diocese

The former Bishop of Grantham, the Right Reverend Dr Tim Ellis, has been appointed as Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Sheffield. Bishop Tim Eliis retired from his last post in September 2013 after nearly eight years as a Suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Lincoln. Prior to that, he spent five years as Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey and eight years in the south of the county.

Youth Ministers authorised by Bishops through Aurora course

At the Celebration of Lay Ministries on 20 September, 10 Children’s Ministers and four Youth Ministers were authorised by the Bishop to minister in their parishes. Those being authorised have all graduated through the Aurora Children and Youth course.

Mission Development Project Manager Announced

The Diocese of Sheffield is pleased to announce the appointment of Graham Millar who will be taking up the new role of Project Manager in early October.

Diocese takes the centenary tour to Doncaster Minster

Doncaster Minster was the venue this weekend for the sixth stage of the Centenary Tour.  Continuing the journey around the diocese, people from the region came to explore the building, see heritage displays and exhibitions from parishes and take part in Songs of Praise-style worship.

The event started with a Pilgrimage Walk departing from St Peter in Chains at 1.30pm with the crowd reaching the Minster by 2.15pm.

Diocese of Sheffield teams up with English Heritage this weekend for major celebration event

Roche Abbey is this weekend hosting the Diocese of Sheffield at it continues to celebrate its centenary year.  The event marks the fifth stage of the official 2014 centenary tour around the region.

When: Sunday, 7 September 2014, 2-5pm

What: Free entrance for family events, activities and refreshments

Where: Roche Abbey (off A634), Maltby, Rotherham, S66 8NW

Who: Bishop of Sheffield, Bishop of Doncaster, Centenary Singers, Micah’s Gang puppet theatre

Capture a moment in the life of a church – photo competition launched

A photography competition is being held as part of the centenary celebrations for the Diocese of Sheffield.  From Carlecotes to Adlingfleet, Snaith to Thorpe Salvin, the diocese possesses an outstanding collection of church buildings. They hold over 1,500 years of heritage and histories of the people and parishes they have served from Saxon times to the modern day.

Entries are sought which celebrate the life and heritage of our churches and encourage people to explore and engage with these amazing buildings.

Bishop of Sheffield appeals to keep climate change on the agenda

The Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft has spoken out to give his strong support to the Hope for the Future climate change campaign.

Hope for the Future is an initiative, supported by Christian Aid, aimed at getting realistic climate change policies into the manifestos of the main political parties ahead of the next general election in May 2015.
