Clergy Companion Training Sessions

Further to Chairs of the Houses of Clergy meeting at Launde Abbey earlier this year, I am pleased to be able to tell you that the House of Clergy at General Synod unanimously endorsed the proposals for an insurance scheme with EIG and for the development of a network of trained clergy “companions” to support colleagues facing proceedings under Clergy Terms of Service.
The Standing Committee of the House of Clergy subsequently also set up a small working group to carry forward the latter proposal.
Ministry Division have assisted to arrange dates for the training sessions for clergy companions.
Inevitably it has taken time to tie up dates and venues but the following have now been agreed:
11.00am Registration and Coffee, 11.30am Start, with 30 minutes lunch break, 3.30am Finish.
London – 29th September & 12th October at Church House
Leicester – 5th October (Mandy Ford to host)
York – 20th October (John Harrison to host)
Bristol – 27th September– (Colin Randall to host)
Warrington – 11th October tbc
If the scheme is to get off the ground, it is essential that as many of Chairs as possible should be involved in this training – together ideally with at least one other person from our diocese. I shall be going to one meeting, that at York, and the other chairs agreed that we should try to recruit a variety of other people to share in this role – ideally if possible of differing gender, background, churchmanship and ethnicity to ourselves (though not necessarily all at once!)
I would appreciate hearing as soon as possible from any other if they can go with me to York or if one of the other dates/venues would be easier for them. If you are very different to me that would help!
