About the Society

The Church of England Children’s Society is a leading national charity, driven by the belief that all children deserve a good childhood. Guided by the unconditional belief in the worth and importance of all children, the Society offers help and understanding to those forgotten children who face danger, discrimination or disadvantage in their daily lives.

Its network of projects helps over 50,000 children and their families each year. Through its pioneering research and influential campaigning, it defends, safeguards and protects the childhood of all children.

To find out more visit the Society’s website (http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk) or click on any of the highlighted phrases below and follow the instructions:

We focus on two over-arching programmes of work –

Fighting injustice, particularly child poverty. There are 29 counselling or children’s centres engaged on this work

• Protecting from harm, particularly adolescent neglect. There are 6 programmes aimed specifically at runaways, 9 at refugees, migrants and travellers’ children and 5 at disabled children and young people.

Ongoing research and development

At the Children’s Society we regularly carry out research to learn more about issues affecting children and to gain a broader perspective on how they interact and relate to their peers and families.
One of our primary areas of research concerns children and young people who run away from home or care.
Through our specialist research we strive to position ourselves as the leading authority on matters affecting children, providing solid evidence to achieve this and to influence public policy where it’s needed

Know more about the Society

Victor can arrange for a speaker to come to any deanery or church to give more details about the work of the Society and help to raise funds for its work. A speaker can take part in services or talk to any group (PCC, Mission Committee, Mothers’ Union etc), and addresses can be tailored to suit the occasion – from a 10 minute presentation in a service to a full evening, with a talk, questions and discussion.

He is always looking for new speakers to cover the diocese. If you would like to help do contact him at the above address. Training will be given.

Fundraising for the Society

Volunteers are the cornerstone of our work. Without your generous support, we could only reach a fraction of the children we currently help each year. Your hard work and dedication gives us the freedom to concentrate our work where the need is greatest, not just in areas where government funding is available. Together we can give countless children the vital help and support they cannot find anywhere else. Together, we can give them back their childhood.

Two of the most popular ways of raising money are by Christingle activities where the Society can help by providing materials (download to get details) and by House Collecting Boxes where small change makes a large change. By having a box in their homes which is opened annually by a Parish Co-ordinator people all over the country raise £2 million pounds each year.. But there are all sorts of other ways in which you can raise money, and the Fundraising download, or Victor, will help you.
