Argentina Link
Our link with Argentina
Last Updated on Wednesday, 22 September 2010 18:43
The Link began in 1992 and was effective from November 1993, developing the companion link between the Sheffield and Argentina Dioceses from the Sheffield end. has enriched our own diocese and that of our friends in the Diocese of Argentina for nearly 20 years.
It aims to:
- widen the churches’ vision and raise awareness of belonging to the world church
- learn from each other’s experience
- support and encourage one another.
The diocese of Argentina is vast (shown in yellow on the map. Diocese of Northern Argentina is shown in blue). I
Links between parishes are central to the partnership and have been deepened by visits, the 2007 trip to Argentina by a group of mainly lay people being a special time of mutual benefit and enjoyment. Bishop Cyril and Archdeacon Richard have been guests at Argentina’s Synod, while coming this way from Argentina have been the Revd. Michael Wilkie, a USPG missionary who heads diocesan theological training, the Revd Mónica Tompkins, minister of the church at Córdoba and the Revd. Mario Ágreda, assistant pastor at a church which has experienced tremendous growth. Canon John Thomson visited and worked with Michael during his recent sabbatical.
Michael, Mónica and Mario have spent profitable weeks in Sheffield thanks to programmes arranged by the Link Group, gathering valuable ideas for training and expansion as well as broadening our own world through their ministry in parishes and meetings. The Link is exploring new ways of helping Argentina, particularly in its training needs.
We look forward to further years of fellowship and mutual enrichment.
