There are a great variety of skills and backgrounds reflected in the make-up of the committee:
  • We offer all churchmanships
  • we have musicians of all styles
  • we have liturgists - pastoral and historical
  • experienced facilitators for worship training

What are we for?

Worship is central to Church Activity.  We all do it.  Other activities have little relevance without it.  It expresses our theology.

Worship is our shop window, a means of evangelism and mission.  The quality of our worship makes an impact on the way newcomers perceive us.

We aim to make worship as good as we can make it, expressing the new life, which the Risen Lord brings and the vitality of the Spirit.

What do we do?

  • We encourage best worship practice and liturgical formation within the diocese.
  • We produce liturgies for diocesan, deanery or parish occasions.
  • We liaise over liturgical matters with the National Liturgical Commission, Praxis Yorkshire, the Diocesan Advisory Committee, the R.S.C.M., and the Ministry Diocesan Training Team.
  • We deal with liturgical matters referred to us by the Bishop and also refer matters, on our own initiative, to the Bishop.

How do we do it?

  • Our members have visionary ideals, but are keen to make practical, down to earth contributions to worship in the life of the Church.
  • We organise workshops, relating to Reader training and IME 4 - 7 and Deanery Development.
  • We go to parishes as an external point of advice when they are changing their worship in some way.
  • We can conduct a "worship audit" for a parish.
  • We speak to deaneries and to chapters about new services and the renewing of old ones.
  • We act as a focus or resource for diocesan discussion of liturgical concerns.

How can you help us?

We want to know what is going on liturgically in the diocese.  Has your parish done anything original or innovative in any area of worship?  We would be pleased to receive details or copies of orders of service for any special services, or other events which you have organised, good ideas for all-age worship, anything which you feel has worked well and could be of use or interest to others.
