‘The Logic of Evangelism’ by William Abraham is a moderately hard read but very rewarding and a standard text.
‘Transforming Mission’ by David Bosch is a huge book that will provide a lifetime of ideas and knowledge.
John Finney is the grandfather of creative evangelistic thinking in the Church of England and we have both his ‘Emerging Evangelism’ and ‘Recovering the Past’. The first is a pretty up to date review of the practice of evangelism in today’s Britain and the second a fascinating if over drawn comparison of Celtic and Roman models of mission – the latter being the inherited C of E mode and the former more like our fresh expressions.
‘Journeying Out’ by Ann Morisy is a readable examination of community and action being mission by a woman of integrity and insight.
And located at 257.9
Are the ‘Mission Shaped’ series books; MS Spirituality, Church, Children, Rural and Youth. These are semi-official C of E texts and very readable. A few copies are in stock at the Resources for sale at half price.
Lastly, ‘Emerging Churches’ by Gibbs and Bolger, a relatively uncritical examination of the churches beginning to be found here after starting in the USA.
OTHER ITEMS
Depending on your ministry or opportunities the Resources Centre has puppets, posters, music, DVD’s, CD’s and whole courses for Lent, to share the faith, prepare for confirmation.
‘Lost for Words’ is quite an old course, it uses OHP slides, but is a tried and tested way of helping people share their faith.
Even older is ‘Good News Down the Street’ which comes with Video and Cassette but again has stood the test of time as a good tool to encourage local church evangelism.
‘Alpha’ is available in both DVD and Video format.
‘Start!’ is a DVD course introducing the Christian faith in a very down to earth manner.
‘Imagine’ is a thought provoking DVD about sharing faith in today’s complex world – ideal for those wondering how to make an impact in the office if that is their workplace.
‘Becoming a Contagious Christian’ is a Willow Creek resource so originates from the USA. It is a video based support for the book of the same title and does what it says very well.
