Continuing Ministerial Development

CMD is Continuing Ministerial Development mainly for clergy and licensed lay ministers who have completed their first post after ordination or licensing. However the events in the diocese are open to any who wish to come and can be accessed on this site on the 'Courses page
CMD is offered in the following ways:
First Responsibility Training; No Longer a Curate!
Year 1
Taking up the New Role
Legalities, Management & Meetings
Reordering & Conflict Management
Residential: Whirlow Grange
Year 2
Developing Leadership Skills: Leadership in Bible and tradition, leadership styles, leadership and change; leadership and strategy; eading teams, leading congregations; leadership review.
Year 3
Developing Incumbency Skills: managing yourself; managing others; clarifying the core task; generating a core task statement; transformation tools.
CMD Day Conferences on a range of themes configured under the three headings of
- 'Wider Wisdom': Conferences involving external speakers on major theological or other themes and includes the Bishop of Sheffield's Shrove Tuesday Lecture
- 'Ministry Matters': Conferences exploring the character and challenges of ministry today
- 'Sharpening Skills': Conferences offering skill development in ministerial practices
Induction Days
at Church House for those ministers who have recently arrived in the Diocese.
Yorkshire Regional Training Partnership:
CMD Group: Conferences for Supervising Incumbents, Area Deans and those changing posts after a first responsibility post.
Grants:
CMD Grants of £225 per annum for clergy and stipendiary lay ministers towards the cost of an annual retreat and a CMD event provided beyond the Diocese
Sabbaticals:
Grants of £825 for three months OR £400 for a shorter period of between a month and three months which include the annual CMD grant. The maximum number of grants is relative to the equivalent of 6 x £825 grants.
Postgraduate Studies:
4 Grants of £750 per year subject to Episcopal approval.

BA in Theology and Ministry

The programme is suitable for:
- People who have completed the York St John Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry (FDTM) and would like to top-up to an Honours Degree
- Ordained or lay ministers looking for a Continuing Ministerial Educational opportunity that will help them update their theological learning and apply it to their ministry
- Anglican clergy in the first three / four years after ordination who have attained a Level 2 award at the point of ordination and opt to study to gain Level 3
- Anyone who is interested in contemporary issues in Christian theology and ministry from both an academic and a practical point of view
