Revd Joan Ashton

The Reverend Joan AshtonCoordinator of Chaplaincy Services, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham Hospice

I was Ordained at Sheffield Cathedral in 1993 and served in a number of parishes within the diocese both as Curate and Priest in Charge. I began working as a part time Hospital Chaplain in 1998. I have been in my present post since 2004

I lead the Chaplaincy team in providing spiritual care for patients, carers, and staff within the hospital and hospice. We offer spiritual care to those of all faiths or none. We operate a 24/7 system of on-call cover. Our team consists of:

  • Coordinator of Chaplaincy (full time)
  • Anglican Chaplain (full Time)
  • Roman Catholic Chaplain (11.5 hours per week)
  • Free Church Chaplain (3.5 hours per week)
  • Imam (2 hours per week)

In addition we are privileged to have about 30 volunteers who contribute in a variety of valuable ways to the provision of spiritual care.

Prior to my Ordination I had lived and worked within the Rotherham area for all my life. It is therefore a real joy and honour for me to now serve and minister in my “home” hospital and hospice.
