Board of Faith & Justice
Vision Statement
Last Updated on Thursday, 23 September 2010 09:34
The purpose of the Board of Faith and Justice is to develop a passionate, confident vision of the distinctive contribution that churches in our Diocese can make towards establishing communities which are more just, sustainable, hospitable and places of sanctuary. This vision is an integral part of the wider mission of the church and arises from a commitment to the values of the Kingdom of God. The Board will develop strategies to further this vision at every level of the church's work and witness.
The Department works in a number of ways to achieve it's vision:-
Parish Support:
The Faith And Justice Department administers a number of small grant-making funds to help projects and individuals in the parishes and communities within the Diocese.
The South Yorkshire Churches Major Incident Plan:
The Plan is coordinated from the Department and brings together Christian volunteers from all denominations to provide practical help in the event of a major incident in the area.
Church Urban Fund:
The Diocese of Sheffield, on behalf of Christian churches of all denominations in South Yorkshire, has a long and successful relationship with the Church Urban Fund. Since the fund's inception in 1988 it has awarded almost £3,000,000 to projects operating within the geographical area covered by Sheffield Diocese.
Diocesan Environmental Group:
The Environmental Group seeks to encourage churches and individuals across the diocese to care for the environment that God has entrusted to us. Meetings are held at six-weekly intervals and new members are welcomed.
Mental Health Working Group:
The group aims to identify ways in which the capacity of churches to support and receive from people with mental health difficulties can be increased. It works within the diocese with ecumenical, other faith and secular partners towards the furtherance of this aim.
Black Anglican Concerns:
The Diocesan Black Anglican Concerns Group supports the Bishop's Adviser on Black Concerns and oversees the Faith And Justice Department's work in promoting race and cultural awareness. Mrs Carmen Frankllin, the Bishop's Adviser on Black Anglican Concerns can be contacted on 0114 2457160.
