Board of Faith & Justice

Diocese Of Sheffield Lent Challenge 2013

Last Updated on Thursday, 07 February 2013 16:12

This is an invitation from the World Development Adviser and the Board of Faith & Justice

This Lent we are inviting church members across the Diocese to take "A Step Away from Meat" and "A Step Towards Fairtrade".

During 2013 all the major Christian and secular relief and development agencies will be campaigning together on food and hunger. In a world which produces enough food to feed everyone on the planet, one in eight people will go to bed hungry tonight,

yet THERE IS ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF WE USE IT TO FEED PEOPLE NOT LIVESTOCK

Vision Statement

Last Updated on Tuesday, 26 June 2012 16:55

The purpose of the Board of Faith and Justice is to develop a passionate, confident vision of the distinctive contribution that churches in our Diocese can make towards establishing communities which are more just, sustainable, hospitable and places of sanctuary.  This vision is an integral part of the wider mission of the church and arises from a commitment to the values of the Kingdom of God.  The Board will develop strategies to further this vision at every level of the church's work and witness.

The Department works in a number of ways to achieve it's vision:- Currently we are bringing a strategy to Synod in order to map a route for the Diocese in its work to serve communities and challenge unjust structures. In the mean time:....

Churches Major Incident Plan:

The Plan is coordinated from the Department and brings together Christian volunteers from all denominations to provide practical help in the event of a major incident in the area.

Church Urban Fund:

The Diocese of Sheffield, on behalf of Christian churches of all denominations in South Yorkshire, has a long and successful relationship with the Church Urban Fund.  Since the fund's inception in 1988 it has awarded almost £3,000,000 to projects operating within the geographical area covered by Sheffield Diocese.

Diocesan Environmental Group:

The Environmental Group seeks to encourage churches and individuals across the diocese to care for the environment that God has entrusted to us.  Meetings are held at six-weekly intervals and new members are welcomed.

Mental Health Working Group:

The group aims to identify ways in which the capacity of churches to support and receive from people with mental health difficulties can be increased.  It works within the diocese with ecumenical, other faith and secular partners towards the furtherance of this aim.

Minority Ethnic Anglican concerns

The Diocesan Black Anglican Concerns Group supports the Bishop's Adviser on Black Concerns and oversees the Faith And Justice Department's work in promoting race and cultural awareness.  Mrs Carmen Frankllin, the Bishop's Adviser on Black Anglican Concerns can be contacted on 0114 2457160.

Sexuality:

If you would like to speak to someone about any issues relating to sexuality and faith, please contact Kate Plant on 01709 309133 (e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

Ageing:

The Bishop's Adviser on issues relating to ageing, The Revd Kevin Barnard can be contacted at The Vicarage, Stone Moor Road, Bolsterstone, Sheffield S36 3ZN Tel: 0114 2882149
