Archdeacon: Steve Wilcockson
Steve was installed as Archdeacon of Doncaster on 25 January 2012 in Sheffield Cathedral.
Steve has university degrees in Law and French, as well as in Theology, from Nottingham and Oxford. He trained for the ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He has long experience of parish ministry in a wide variety of contexts.
Throughout his thirty-five years of ministry, Steve has been particularly active in evangelism, mission and leadership training.
He served as Curate in both Bradford and Southwark dioceses. His first parish as vicar was an inner urban area of Merseyside. He then moved to a large parish of housing estates in Chester. Both these parishes experienced significant growth under his leadership.
He served as vicar of one of the biggest suburban churches in Greater London for 14 years and, for seven years, was Rural Dean of Epsom. He returned to the Chester Diocese in 2009 before leaving in 2011 to take up his present post.
For several years he trained clergy and church planters in N. India and E. Africa. He has been active in the global mission of the Church, having preached in every continent (except Antarctica!).
He is a Church Pastoral Aid Society Council Member and, for many years, was a Trustee of the South American Mission Society.
Steve is married to Heather, a Health Visitor, and they have two grown up children – Paul and Debbie – and two young grandchildren. He lists among his interests history, leadership, football and rugby union (just watching these days, and he promises to get into rugby league!).
He is a regular at his local gym. On days off, Steve and Heather can often be seen in the company of their dog.
