Nick Hutton, Diocesan Christian Giving Director

Nick Hutton Nick Hutton's role is to teach that Giving is a key part of being an active Christian. We are challenged to do this not only to resource the church in our parish but also out of thankfulness to God for all that he has given to us. This is often called Christian Stewardship which covers using all God has given us to further his kingdom: our time, our skills, our environment, and our wealth.

NEWS: Legacy Initiative

An Initiative is being launched in the Diocese to promote the writing of wills and leaving of legacies amongst church members. The principal objective of the Initiative is to raise awareness amongst church members of the good sense of getting their affairs in order by writing a will. The second goal is to make clear what benefits a legacy can bring a church by making something possible that otherwise could not be achieved and therefore encourage people to think more positively about writing their church into their will.

NEWS: PCC Registration

The Charities Act 2006 requires all parishes with an annual income of £100,000 pa or more to register with the Charity Commission, starting this October. The Diocese of Sheffield is working with the support of the national church as one of two pilot dioceses to help parishes with this process.

A meeting was held on 17th June with those parishes with income known to be above this threshold. Although the procedure is fairly straightforward, there are some important guidance notes which need to be followed if registration is to be successfully achieved.

NO PARISH SHOULD REGISTER WITHOUT SEEKING ADVICE FROM THE DIOCESE.

If your 2007 income was £100,000 or above, and you did not attend this meeting, please contact Nick Hutton at Church House Rotherham on 01709 309151 or nick.hutton@sheffield.anglican.org for guidance.
