Development Day 2018

6th October 2018

Renewed - Released - Rejuvenated

What will a generous and flourishing Diocese of Sheffield look like in 2025?

With keynotes from the Rt Revd Ric Thorpe and Alison Coulter (see below for bios), and through a range of workshops, this day will help you dig deeper into the new diocesan strategy - a really important day for clergy and key lay leaders.

The day will run from 09.30-15.30.

Refreshments will be provided but attendees will need to bring their own lunch.

The workshops will focus on different strands of the strategy, and you will be able to select to attend one in the morning and one in the afternoon:

AM

  • Rejuvenated: Bishop Ric Thorpe, 'Creating new Christian communities'. A practical workshop to follow on from his plenary address.
  • Renewed: 'An experiential workshop of prayer stations'.
  • Released: Julie Banham & Neil Redeyoff, 'Releasing the potential of our buildings'.
  • All three strands: Parish Support Team, 'Practical help to make the most of the revised vision'.

PM

  • Released: Alison Coulter, 'Setting God’s people free'. A practical workshop to follow on from her plenary address.
  • All three strands: Parish Support Team, 'Practical help to make the most of the revised vision'.
  • Released: David Stout & Mark Wigglesworth, 'Releasing the purse strings'. A practical workshop on stewardship and grant funding.
  • Rejuvenated: Huw Thomas & Jacqui Jones, 'Mission in schools'. Practical ways to work with schools, including chaplaincy & Messy Church.

Bishop Ric Thorpe

The Rt Revd Ric Thorpe has been Bishop of Islington since September 2015.  Before being appointed to Islington, Bishop Ric was the Bishop of London’s Adviser for Church Planting and Rector of St Paul’s Shadwell.

The role of Bishop of Islington – a revived post that had been vacant since 1923 – is to support London’s Church growth strategy as part of Capital Vision 2020, which sets a target of creating 100 new worshipping communities within the Diocese by 2020. As such, Bishop Ric is free from territorial responsibilities and focuses on supporting newly established worshipping communities both within London and at a national level, serving as a resource for the whole Church of England.
