Blessing of the Oils - Chrism Service at Sheffield Cathedral 2017

10th April 2017

This year the Chrism Eucharist will be at the Cathedral beginning at 7.00pm on Monday 10th April.  During the service there will be the usual Renewal of Commitment to Ministry and also the blessing of oils.

The service this year is to be preceded by a period of prayer between 3rd and 10th of April for unity, healing and reconciliation following recent events in the Diocese which have impacted on us collectively. A daily prayer sheet is available to download.

All clergy and readers are invited to robe. Clergy should robe in cassock, surplice and white or gold stole or if that is not your tradition cassock, surplice scarf and hood. Readers are asked to robe in cassock, surplice, scarf and hood. Church Army Evangelists are invited to process in uniform. If you do not wish to robe and you may still walk in the procession.  Those who hold other authorised ministries will also renew their own commitment to ministry. Please register your attendance at the service and your intention to robe by emailing info@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk by Friday 7 April. In the email, also specify if you are clergy/reader and what oils you would like: Oil of the Sick, Oil of Chrism and Oil of Catechumens.

It would be helpful if those robing could arrive by 18.30 and follow the directions of the stewards to the robing areas.
