The Church plays a vital part in education across the region. The Education Department supports and resources Church schools within the Diocese of Sheffield. It also provides support for clergy and local authorities and also provides events and support for community schools. If you have any questions or need to talk something through we invite you to get in touch.
Board of Education
Bishop Peter - Chair of Board of Education - 01302 email@example.com
Ordained in 1983, Peter said that at the heart of his ministry has been a vision for proclaiming the gospel, a vision that includes the church itself being transformed and renewed as it reflects the image of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
Since coming to the diocese, Peter has been involved in a number of initiatives including the Central Services Review, planning the Diocesan Centenary celebrations, and chairing the International Link Group and the newly formed Doncaster Faiths Together group. He is also chair of Doncaster Council’s Children and Families Strategic Partnership Board. Peter has also pioneered meetings with business, community and civic groups across Doncaster as part of the church’s ongoing commitment to Incarnational Mission.
Revd Melanie FitzGerald
I have been Vicar of St Mary's, Walkley and an ex officio governor of St Mary's Academy for 13 years becoming the Chair of governors in 2013. I used to be a peripatetic clarinet teacher working in several different schools and I am still passionate about the value of learning music.
I am keen that the christian ethos and strong links between the school and church are maintained and that all the pupils of St Mary's Academy are given the best chance possible of achieving their full potential and becoming a responsible citizen of the 21st Century.
In my spare time I enjoy the countryside and am a keen horse rider with a special interest in ponies native to the British Isles, especially the Dales Pony.

I have been a governor at Broomhill Infant School in Sheffield since 2006, chair since 2010 and am also vice-chair at Norfolk Park Special School. I am an accredited National Leader of Governance and have worked with several Sheffield schools to develop their governance and leadership arrangements. I am chair of the Sheffield Association for the Voluntary Teaching of English, a small charity which provides English teaching to learners whom the statutory system does not reach. In 2006-7 I chaired a major national enquiry on ESOL teaching and learning for the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education. I have been a member of the Anglican Church all my life and have worshipped at St John's Ranmoor since 1986.

Revd Eleanor Robertshaw
I am Team Rector of the Parish of Great Snaith but prior to my ordination I was a secondary school teacher in Rotherham for 10 years. I am passionate about Education and children achieving the very best they can. One of the major attraction of the role in Great Snaith was the two church schools, Cowick and Pollington- Balne which are in the Parish. I am Vice Chair of governors at each school and am often seen in the schools, leading worship, teaching and generally being around. My aim is that by the end of their time at Primary school, the children will feel like the church belongs to them and is a spiritual space for them. I also spend time in the non- church schools in the Parish, two other primary schools and a Secondary. I relish going back into my 'home' environment of the Secondary school and loved the opportunity to teach a lesson to the GCSE pupils.
Whats the most rewarding thing about being involved in Education? When I get out of my car and the children in the yard all shout 'Hello Reverend Eleanor!!!!' FANTASTIC!
