Archbishop appoints new Bishop of Dover

The new Bishop of Dover and Bishop in Canterbury is to be the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, formerly the Bishop of Basingstoke. Bishop Trevor, who commented "I feel very privileged to be chosen by the Archbishop for this role", will take over from current Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Dr Stephen Venner, who will retire at the end of November.

On Wednesday 14 October the Mothers' Union are holding a Marketing day called “Open The Box”. The day will run from 10am - 3pm at the URC, Sheffield. 'Fiesta Latina' – South American Mission Society (SAMS) Sheffield Roadshow

SAMS is holding a Roadshow in the Diocese of Sheffield at St Thomas’ Church Hall, Kimberworth.  There will be South American food and dancing, and short presentations from: Revd Mario Ágreda, visiting the UK from Buenos Aires on behalf of SAMS and the Sheffield-Argentina diocesan link; Bishop Henry Scriven, Mission Director for South America; and David Clay, recent volunteer in Brazil.

The Blessed Trinity RC Church

The address will be given by Rev Roger Paul the Church of England National Adviser on all things Ecumenical on the subject of "Receptive Ecumenism". The event will take place on Sat 17 October at Blessed Trinity RC Church Northfield Lane,Wickersley S66 2HF. 9.30am - 12.00.

The Annual St. Nicholas Fayre will take place in the Church Hall, Macaulay Road, Broadstone on Saturday 21 November 2009, starting at 10am with an entrance fee of £1 for adults and free admission for children under 12. There will be stalls, prize draws, refreshments, games, gifts, raffle, tombola and a guest appearance by a kindly old gent in a red outfit, possibly with snow on his boots. Entry fees include coffee and mince pies.

Pilgrimages

Pilgrimage Against Poverty Sheffield

You are invited to join this pilgrimage, which has been devised by the Sheffield branch of Church Action on Poverty to include places notable in the struggle against poverty and to provide some spectacular views. It is one of several pilgrimages being organised to mark the 10th anniversary of the Poverty Pilgrimage from Iona to London that took place in 1999, and to express solidarity with those in the UK who are poor and vulnerable. Pilgrims can seek sponsorship for the pilgrimage, with proceeds going to help to homeless people and the work of Church Action on Poverty.

The Pilgrimage is approximately 5 miles long and will start at 9.30am on Saturday 17 October at the Anglican cathedral where there will be a short service.

For Your Prayers

Occupational Prayer Cycle

We ask you to pray this week (1st - 7th October) for people from the following occupations;- Police, prison officers, firefighters and ambulance crews, traffic wardens. The Occupational Prayer Cycle, which runs week by week, covers nearly all occupations over the course of the year. It is produced by South Yorkshire Workplace Chaplaincy, and more information can be found on their website at http://www.sywc.org.uk/opc/. The Chaplaincy has chaplains to the fire, police and courts services, as well as many other organisations.
