Chris Bishop - Centenary Project Worker

Summary of the Last 18 Months

[by Chris Bishop, January 2018]

When I first started working for the Holy Redeemer Mission Partnership (formally the Sheffield Hickleton Mission Partnership) back in May 2016 there was no organised, long term planned Youth Ministry in place at any of the Parishes within the Sheffield Hickleton Mission Partnership.

Now after 18 months we have an established a stable programme in place offering vibrant and varied activities for our young people, some of which are described in more detail below.

God’s blessings have been so apparent

Connect - Connect’ is a fresh expression of Church which meets monthly at both St Matthew’s Carver Street and St Catherine of Sienna, Richmond. Connect has enabled me to spend quality time with our young people and begin to Pastor to them.

It has been fantastic to receive the support and input of several Lay, Lay adult volunteers who themselves are benefitting from on-going training for Youth and Children’s ministry. This in itself is very encouraging and will enable added capacity and growth within the team of Lay ministries across the Mission Partnership.

Ablaze - 'Ablaze' is aimed at the young people across the Mission Partnership. It is a bi-monthly prayer meeting, planned to encourage Mission and Evangelism, moving around the parishes of the Mission Partnership which aims to help young people to know and experience friendship with the Holy Spirit through encouraging a lifestyle of praise, worship and adoration.

Thirst Youth Café’ - Thirst Youth Café is a fresh expression of Church which meets fortnightly. The Youth Café includes structured discussions and video presentations based around ‘Youth Alpha’, prayer and worship, free time, craft activities, the sharing of food and fellowship.

The next phase in our plans for Youth Ministry are focused on building a strong team of adult volunteers from across the Mission Partnership, and in particular to see individuals grow in Confidence and to become Lay Leaders of Youth Ministry within the Parish.

God’s blessings have been so apparent in a beautiful spirit amongst people and the many events that have peppered the last 18months.
