The Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft, will spend time meeting clergy and laity of the Rotherham deanery tomorrow (30th June).
Dr Croft will begin his day with a meeting of clergy at St. Mary Magdalene, Whiston, which will be followed by lunch at Rotherham Vicarage.
The new Bishop of Sheffield was welcomed to the Diocese a couple of months ago and he is currently touring all of the deaneries (clusters of parishes) to find out what is happening on the ground and to listen to stories of people’s lives and experiences.
In the afternoon, Dr Croft will be briefed on how flood devastation has affected his Diocese in recent years when he visits Brinsworth and especially the Waverley Development and Tinsley Project.
He will learn about work currently underway and be updated on the implications of last week’s various reports highlighting how much money has to be spent to fight the threat posed by climate change.
The Bishop will then spend some time in the centre of Rotherham visiting Rotherham Renaissance, the town centre and Minster projects.
Each of the deanery visits so far have featured an evening of worship and debate for people from local churches and Tuesday will be no different.
St. Cuthbert’s Herringthorpe is the venue for a service at which Dr Croft will be interviewed by Rev Ann Wood & Mr Peter Rainford.
“I am already aware that there is a lot happening in Rotherham and am genuinely looking forward to the day and to seeing much of the development happening there with my own eyes,” said Dr Croft today
