How can churches better relate to the communities around them? This is the question which this easy access and practical book seeks to answer. It explores the nature of community, models of community work, engaging with ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, how to work with local authorities and voluntary agencies, the importance of good practice when working with volunteers and also issues of religion and spirituality in contemporary life. I particularly liked the way the authors located all of this within God’s mission and the sensitivity and integrity which this asks of Christian people today. The book does not advocate anonymous service but neither does it see community ministry as a means of getting more converts. It encourages churches to be clear about who and what they are about in such service in order that they can faithfully witness to the Gospel in their communities. I would love to have had access to this sort of book when in the parish. Do borrow the book from the Resources
